The Health-Care Fair
Date: Tuesday, May 25, 2004
We’ve all heard of Employment Fairs, Industrial Fairs and the like, but nobody had ever heard of Health-Care Fairs in Egypt. On May 25, 2004, EHRMA in collaboration with the HR Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt joined forces and initiated such a practice. The Health-Care Fair was a successful event that was well received by all parties involved.

Health-care services were introduced to the Egyptian market not so many years ago. In the 70’s to the 80’s, this service was provided through public-sector companies only. Lately, however, the private sector companies penetrated the market, offering plans which were more flexible in nature and with a variety of options to meet the needs of their clientele.

Through the Fair HR professionals found out what companies were available in the Egyptian market and what services they were providing. On the same day, a presentation titled: Health Maintenance and Healthy People,” was made by Dr. Gamal El Khatib, Management and Sustainability Specialist, at Tahseen Catalyst, a USAID-funded Project. The presentation emphasized the fact that health care is a joint responsibility of the individual, the employer, the health care provider and the community as a whole. Some criteria were laid to help the HR professionals choose the system which best suits the needs of their personnel and their profiles.

EHRMA intends to hold this fair on a yearly basis, thus bringing HR professionals up-to-date information on available companies and their offerings; and to act as an advocating body to get the best service from health-care providers at fair and affordable premiums to its members.
